My journey to becoming a clinical hypnotherapist
FROM WHERE IT BEGAN
My entire childhood revolved around one goal:
I first became aware of the power of the mind and our natural ability to access trance and overcome obstacles to wellbeing when I was a teenager.
My father had terminal lung cancer brought about by smoking cigarettes and he was in a great deal of pain. I watched how he coped and managed this pain each evening without medication by sitting quietly, consciously focusing on relaxing his body and visualising the pain lessening until it became manageable. I now understand that he was harnassing the natural ability we all have of going into trance in order to reduce his experience of physical pain before sleep.
Unfortunately, he was not able to quit smoking and so when he died, he died a smoker. This had a huge impact on me and at the young age of 17yrs I knew that I wanted to devote my life to helping people harnass the power of their mind to overcome obstacles to living a healthy life and achieve optimal wellbeing.
I obtained a BSc (hons) degree in biological and biochemical sciences and went on to successfully complete a doctorate in medical research. It was while I was completing my PhD that I discovered mindfulness meditation and experienced first-hand the benefits of relaxation, visualisation and focusing my mind on the present moment (rather than ruminating on the past or worrying about the future) in order to cultivate positive states of mind. For me, hypnotherapy is the perfect fusion of cutting edge neuroscience and meditation. It is a joy to be on this healing path and, as we continue to learn more and more about how the mind works and how our mind-body connection can be optimised for health benefits, I look forward to helping you live your best life with optimal health and wellbeing.
I can help you overcome
the fears and obstacles in your life.

Using Molecular Music
My unique therapeutic approach using Molecular Music
While I was studying for my PhD at the University of Bath, I discovered a novel way of translating the protein structures that I was working on in the laboratory to musical patterns. I termed this innovative music made from the molecules of life “Molecular Music”. I won a prestigious Invention and Innovation award from the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (NESTA) to develop Molecular Music further and create various scientific educational exhibits and CD recordings.
Molecular Music has received wide international recognition and media coverage, and I have received feedback from people from all over the world describing how listening to Molecular Music has helped them to relax, deepen meditative trance states and enabled them to connect with nature and themselves in a new way.
During my career, I have gained valuable experience working with UK NHS mental health professionals in my role as a Lundbeck Senior Medical Representative where I specialised in medication for depression and anxiety. Fifteen years ago, I returned to academia and specialised in cardiac rehabilitation research, first at the University of Exeter and now at the University of Glasgow. I continued to meditate and explore the effects of Molecular Music for relaxation, meditation and visualisation.
Becoming a clinical hypnotherapist and psychotherapist is a natural evolution of my life’s journey so far, combining my interdisciplinary holistic outlook and academic career path beautifully. I love that clinical hypnotherapy combines cutting edge neuroscience, modern psychology, trance work and music to help people regain control of their lives and maximise their wellbeing, freeing them to be the best version of themselves and to live their best lives.
